    Thanks for the review. We stopped at that Love’s for fuel on our way to an overnight stay at Twin Oaks in Elko, GA, and noticed the RV park as we were leaving. Twin Oaks has been our old reliable overnight stay on our way north from Florida for years, but at $69.55 a night is more expensive. They do have full hookups and excellent wifi, but gravel pull thru sites, not concrete pads like Love’s. I think we’ll try out the Love’s on our next trip north. What did you think of Bojangles? We like their chicken and biscuits; similar to Popeye’s.

    Check those lag bolt sizes. Your unit being older now probably has the little 3/8" and can be upgraded to 1/2" dia. Also, when reinstalling the lagbolts, inject an epoxy into the side wall hole then torque the bolts. That should stop them fro. Backing out. You can buy an epoxy that comes with a long mixing nozzle to reach the back of the hole.

    The multiplus series are designed for passive convective heat dispersal - simply look at the massive grate holes in (what is SUPPOSED to be) the bottom of the case. Mounting it on its side reduces the ability for air to absorb the heat and convect up and away from the case. Installing it sideways like this will: - reduce the service life - reduce peak power ability - void your warranty - burn your rig down Not that great of an install, tbh.

    Could you have rolled your eyes any further back in your head when talking about frame damage-not flex but breakage. You are OWNED by GD. Sure you and your issues with little things, and bring that out, whoopee! Of course they let you talk about how they came out or how you fixed it. But for the rest of who have broken frames that were "fixed" by GD-like us, GD has done little to help us. No reimbursement for hotel, meals, or fuel. So, roll those eyes Mr. and Mrs. GD. Obviously, you tell the GD line well.

    1:24 - Crimping is a “roadside repair”, like a doughnut spare tire. never rely on that as a permanent solution. When you get home, re-soldered the connection properly. I’m an old-school Harley rider and trust me, that’s what’ll get you by! Been a while since I’ve been able to follow your channel, but good to see you guys are doing great!

    • @harleyrdr1
      @harleyrdr1 День тому

      9:51 - Let me add to to my comment. “Power” electrical connections are not things like RJ-45 or coax connections. Crimping is pretty much all you got for “signal/data transmission” connections. For power electrical connections soldering is the way to go. So for viewers that don’t know this, don’t be lazy! Crimp your data connections, but learn how to solder your electrical power connections!

    Hi! I came across your channel, and I am hoping you can answer a question for me. We purchased a pre-owned Class A that came with a lot of upgrades, including antennas and Pepwave MAX router. The trouble is, neither my husband or I are super IT savvy. Do you know of a company (or person) that offers IT Support for Full Time RV owners? I would love to find someone who can help us go through all the pieces we have, and help us make the most of them. Right now, we're still using our MiFi Hotspots, and I know that the Pepwave can handle the Sim cards. Unfortunately, the videos on Peplink's support page are geared towards people who understand the equipment way better than I do. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    A fun first look. In BC, Canada, air brake certification is required. Riding on the sofa requires seat belts, so lounging while under way may be difficult. Going for a sandwich while under way is not the best idea....that's why we stop to do that. Pulling a large 5th wheel requires heavy load certification to keep your insurance valid. Don't find out the hard way...that's the first question asked during the claim process. ICBC website has the details.

    I disagree with the lag bolt issue. "Missing" bolts regardless of specification is them cutting corners and being cheap. If it was me and the holes are there and they didn't use them "I WOULD". Bare minimum is not a way to build anything, you should ALWAYS overbuild. RV's should not be susceptible to tofu dreg construction.

Of course some of the camping stores were happy to sell it to us but at ridiculously high prices (>$1200), we ended up finding it for $340. (it was just the door window, so no opening or closing. Good job on the video, we always enjoy watching.

    IMO the way Grand Design handled the whole frame flex issue was pretty poor, until they were finally forced to do something. They were pointing the finger at Lippert, who designed the frame per GD's specs and requirements, and at their customers, claiming they overloaded their rigs. I'm sure in some cases that is correct, but not in all. We just noticed a crack in the sidewall (near our bedroom closet slideout in the front) of our Dutchmen Voltage Triton 4271. We baby our rig, no off roading, and no overloading, but we do have ~30k mi. on it in the first 3 years, and America's roads aren't exactly perfect. I reached out to our dealer, who said there could be frame and/or sidewall failure, so they had us test the frame flex, per Lippert's document, and we only measured 1/4" movement, which is considered normal. Likely we just have a broken weld in the sidewall near the slideout due to the flex from driving down the road in the nose. I also mentioned to them in passing that we had water damage on our 3 lower slideout floors where the water had wicked through the Darco wrap and into the OSB slide floors, but that I had dried them out, added hardener, slide skis, and rollers. Within a matter of hours, our dealer said they received approval from Keystone not only for the sidewall repair / replacement where the crack is, but also for all 3 slideout floors (which I didn't even ask to be replaced)! I was blown away, given that we only have a few days left on our 3 year warranty, but Keystone and our dealer definitely deserve kudos for standing behind their product and going above and beyond. We are taking our rig to them this weekend to start the repairs (within only a few days of notifying them of this issue). For what it's worth I checked our lag bolts in our sidewalls as well, all were in place, though some had loosened so I tightened those. I'm still not convinced that it's 'normal' to leave lag bolts out, GD is the only mfg I've heard of that does that. If there is a place for them, why would they not be installed, to have better attachment to the sidewalls? How many lag bolts are installed is 100% on the manufacturer, not Lippert.

    In my opinion Grand Design did too little too late, in coming out with their extended warranty. The only reason they did that was the tremendous heat they were getting on social media that they were not able to squash. I have owned three Grand Design campers over the years and the worst one was our 2020 Solitude 310 GK. It was literally falling apart from the center of the bedroom forward. We have since moved on to a different way of traveling the country and camping. My heart goes out to those who have serious issues with their campers from this company that will probably never get rectified correctly by putting a Band-Aid on a major wound.

I have to keep a fan on mine at all times in the summer as my last one overheated and crapped out on me and right now I just have it hanging from the cable bundle as if I attach it to the wall it overheats as well (don't know why there are no internal fans in this device)

    • @ChangingLanes
      @ChangingLanes День тому

      I think that one chassis might fit more than one floorplan and each floorplan has it's own specs on which holes are appropriate for that plan... This is just a guess. On the backing out, i would guess it's our wonderful highway system beating the crap out of the RV. The roads just keep getting worse.

    Seriously? Hubbub? I can send you some families who are dealing with major hubbub. Denial much Chad, wake up to reality about what is really happening. No, GD has not stepped up as their warranty has so many holes in it. I can prove it but if you want to keep burying your head in the sand, I am not going to waste my time. Now your brand is attached to Grand Designs frame failure and you are letting a lot of GD owners down.

    You guys are the last ones I would ask how to maintain a gravel road... You know how "NOT" To maintaining the road... 😂.. you shouldn't see ANY Sand at all.. only gravel.. and pack it with a roller or something so the stones LOCK into place... If you see sand, that means you don't have nearly enough gravel.. don't just rely on the vehicles weight to compress the stone material.. and have someone keep an eye on it when your away.... That is, IF you don't want to get stuck again and again.

    You have the upgraded suspension,you also have an upgraded pin box and fifth wheel? You shouldn't be seeing frame flex beyond spec or welding defects that can lead to damage .If the hot water repair was on your latest RV ,wouldn't you challenge the longevity of accessories that are installed ? It seems to be a case of buying a new RV but be prepared to be a handy repair person , because they are and often rubbish and require constant attention. You put gloss on a problem that has now been exposed and it took them to long to set in place the actions to address it ,and it's proven with other brands that frames can be built by the main manufacturer but do not have the same issues,because the RV specs are greater than other brands .

    I love travelling. We’ve towed a camper trailer for years, all over Australia in very tough terrain, many times with a high level of stress. The thought, however , of towing that impressive monster of yours across the country fills me with the opposite of relaxation.

    My little black valve is leaking. I bot a 1/2" rainbird elbow and two 1/2" "risers" (short length of pipe threaded on both ends). I screw the 3 pieces together and then install them in the water line where the valve was. No more worries in that spot. Now I NEVER leave my garden hoses screwed to the inlets on camper exterior when we leave, even for overnight. Don't be lazy! Get those lines off and leave them off unless you're THERE

    Great video. Looked like you have the 3/8" Lag Bolts instead of the 1/2" that Grand Design specifies in recent TSB. So when you talked with GD were they good with the 3/8"? Thank you.

      They mistakenly used 3/8ths lag bolts instead of 1/2 inch. Check out TSB 24-001. Also if your 410 is a single tube main rail TSB says use 3 1/2" Lags. Most had 3/8ths x 3". Too small in diameter and too short to get good grip in wood.

    Love how you break things down Chad on the water heater. I was always taught to start out by testing power then work your way from their. Thank for confirmation. The window was easier than I thought. Thanks for sharing.

    I'm wondering if it would make sense to loctite every lag bolt since they tend to back out. The engineers must have a reason for not recommending it to the production crew. Maybe?

    • @CartersTrail
      @CartersTrail 2 дні тому

      The lag bolts go through thin aluminum tubing into a wood insert. The service bulletin recommends using Sikaflex or epoxy when installing them.

      No lap sealant is used. But what they did on my new '24 was silicone just along the top of every window.

    Do 5th wheels usually come with a map of their lag bolts? How did you know where to locate them?

    • @chrisneal386
      @chrisneal386 2 дні тому

      No there is not. They will run along the inside base board of the 5th wheel over hang. Maybe behind trim, carpet (under bed, behind dresser drawers, etc. all depends on the floor plan). I found my GD had 5 holes on each side, but only two lags on each side. So I measured an existing lags, the added a total of six lags to fill the empty holes. I hope that helps.

      @@chrisneal386 did you upgrade the bolts to the 1/2 inch ones vice what I assume were 3/8 inch ones? Plus, it's a good idea to also use a chemical bond, i.e. an epoxy like JB Weld, so as to decrease the odds of the lag bolts working their way out again.

    • @ChangingLanes
      @ChangingLanes День тому

      No. You'd need to call support and ask about your model.

    • @chrisneal386

      @@stevenjefferys10 yes, OEM 3/8 lags with sealant. Sealant instead of an adhesive because you may need to remove and reuse hole without ripping the wood apart to remove lag.
